Welcome to my Broken Birds, The Story of My Momila's blogsite

This is not my first blog, but since that was then and now is now, I have refreshed by blog site and will keep it much more current with Broken Bird talk. I invite everyone to pop in from time to time and see what's going on with my never ending quest to get my book out there and successful. Remember to go to the other blog for my daily entries.

  1. Now that I've welcomed you I'd like to tell you what's been going on. In 2009 I finished the book after lots of work. The book was printed and I began putting it out there, but I discovered, sadly, that the editing (Spelling and flow) was not up to snuff . . . SO I redid it . . . again.
Now it is picture perfect and I've been very busy exposing it to the world.
I am on amazon.com, smashwords.com and soon to be on Barnes and Nobel.com.
I am also in Diesel Book store in Malibu and Chaucers in Santa Rosa.
It's been a lot of hard word, but I wasn't lucky enough to have 8 children pop out of my uterus.
This morning I was interviewed on Blogradio.com and invite you all to take a listen.

Afterwards, I would so appreciate it if you could write me and tell me what you thought of it.
I am re-doing the book's website and am excited about the current batch of positive 4 & 5 star reviews.
That's it for now. I'll be much more diligent about keeping this site up and current.
    PLEASE WRITE ME!!!!!!

  2. I happily just another review which was posted on Amazon.com. I am so happy when they are good and so heart broken when they aren't. I have to build up a thicker skin. On Goodreads.com I noticed that Devils and Demons by Dan Brown appears on both the years best AND worst lists. So I guess that is how it goes.

  3. If anyone wants to see samplings of the book, I am unable to post them for some reason, but if you go here, you can read it.

  6. The past few days have been quiet. No new reviews to speak of and I have had lots of frustration with the blogging thing. It is harder than it looks to attach this blog to bloggers.com. Why can;t they make the process more user friendly for the over 30 crowd? BUT I will persevere and keep on trying.

  7. Today I am forcing myself away from the computer when it deals with my book. I fear I may be a bit compulsive about trying to get it acknowledged, but this is really important to me and since I don't have an agent, publisher, etc it's up to me. So I'm signing off for the day.

  8. I have come up with the opening sentence to my follow up novel. Wish me luck.

  9. I got another review, BUT this one was one of THOSE reviews. They loved the first part . . . the part about the Holocaust, WHICH EVERYONE LIKES, but here is where it's about a 70/30 split. If you've ever had problems with family or have been cheated by people in general, and it hurt ALOT, then you can identify with the rest of the book, but If life has never thrown any curves your way then it seems trite.
Bad reviews hurt my heart BUT I will survive . . . as the song says and carry on.
(I've just finished the first page of the first draft of my next book. It's the book those ney sayers said the wanted. The nitty gritty details of my parents time in the war.

  10. I have a great system for tracking allllll those emails that we must do to try and get our book picked up. Maybe others have this system already, but I jazzed that I developed it without any help.
First I categorize those that I am writing to: Review, Book club, Bookstore, Agent, Distributor, Publisher. Then I write down the date, so as not to bother them tooooo often. IF I get a response from them, I jot that down and if they aren't interested, I don't delite them, I simply write **no**. In this way I know I have contacted and who needs to be nudged just a little more. Does this help anyone?

  11. I have been brainstorming about what the first page of my new book should be and I thought I had it all done. BUT best made plans of mice and men and all that. While I was having my nails done . . I came up with a completely different idea for my first page. At this rate I'll never finish the first chapter.

  12. I contemplating taking a two month break from writing my next book. Living is out there waiting for me, but I am drawn back to the keyboard.

  13. Well it will be the shortest two months in history, as I am planning to write sometime this weekend, BUT I am also going to the zoo and photograph the animals.

  14. Still another blog that has nothing to do with my book, but::::
I saw Sex in the City 2 today and it was FABULOUS! No it isn't going to answer any deep probing life changing questions, but it was fun fun fun. Great clothes, fabulous scenery, a world I will never be able to visit (Not enough money) and a great romp for anyone who loved Sex in the City the series.

  15. What I did learn from the movie, Sex in the City 2 is that money won't buy you love BUT it will buy the best time of your life. Not a bad 2nd choice.
Shallow . . . . only until you see how the realllllly rich live.

  16. Today I got a good review, 4 out of 5 stars. It seemed to resonate that which I hoped it would. The trouble that plagued a family (Mine) after the war. After the dust had settled . . . . or so it seemed to the outside world.
Good reviews are great. So much better than the other choice.

  18. I've been working a lot of getting my blog out there, on sharpening my query letter, but gathering demographic info for the proposal. Just a lot of stuff. AND add to that mess that I am working on the premise for my 2nd book and a child's book I am collaborating on and bing bang boom. I'm one busy lady. And you know what I LOVE IT! I am fifty plus and I feel that a clock is chasing me around, so I best hurry up.

  19. I am searching for a font. A great font . . . a different font. One that says Hi I'm Jeannette and I am quirky, kind and funny BUT serious too.

  20. Does anyone have any idea of the hours spent trying to get books out and read? It's a shit load. I have spent 1/2 of Saturday emailing out requests for my book. What I wouldn't give to sleep with Tiger Woods and have a book deal already waiting for me.

  21. I think I have fallen in love with Missiva Font.
    Yes/no?

  22. I have just learned that most of the queries I sent to publishers and Agencies weren't the correct format. AND IF THEY AREN'T CORRECT the queries end up in the circular file. Darn!

  23. I saw a rattlesnake on the trails where I ride and a coyote on my front lawn. WHAT A DAY!

  24. Here is a new review. I am happy.
    Hi Jean,

Hope all is well. Below is my review of broken Birds. As always, Author

Broken Birds: The Story of My Momila by Jennette Katzir is an interesting and touching novel. It is one of those rare novels that describe the malady of man’s inhumanity to man in a clear and succinct way. Of course, at times, in reading the different events of this moving narrative, it became very sad and tearful. But how can one describe the insanity of the systematic extermination of millions of European Jews during the Holocaust. Often, this critical period of their lives is skimmed over in the history’s book. Those who survived the ravages of this maniacal adventure ends up with overwhelming fear, distrust, and dysfunctional behavior. However, Broken Birds demonstrated exemplary bravery in describing the horrendous affects the Holocaust brought upon one family. It revealed that the deep psychological damage impaled in the consciousness of those who survived this mass atrocity can easily be passed on to the next generation. Consequently, the dysfunctional interactions among the siblings, as described, certainly earned the title of Broken Birds. Interestingly enough, years later, some members of this family were able to go and revisit some of the places and buildings where this horrific event took place. This book is very educational and is highly recommended for the whole family. It also has the ideal cover.

  25. I learned some more things about writing a book.
    Publisher don't like adverbs.
They don't want to hear "He walked slowly" They'd rather hear "He walked as slow as a slug."
Wow, who would have thought that?

  26. I'm going off topic to Harry Potter. I know I am way too old to like that franchise, but I can't help myself, I do love them. Harry, Hermione, Ron . . . everyone. (I didn't like the Dumbledor, but he's dead). This November part 1 of the 2 part finale opens, and I can't wait. That J.K. Rowling is one smart and insanely rich woman. She knew she could make one more or two movies- twice the money. But I will go to both happily.

  27. I worked all day on perfecting my proposal and now it is kick ass if I say so myself. I researched who would want to buy it (WHICH SHOULD BE EVERYONE), but I was more realistic. Then I looked up competitors and found numbers to support their and then my success. Boy I am proud of myself. It's a shame I didn't do this first. Still so much to learn at 56.

  28. Today I went to a friend's Mom's headstone unveiling. It was a lovely service and it just so happened to be in the same cemetery as mom's.How is it that people are here one moment and gone the next? How precious our existence is? Where does the sky end?

  29. Today I f cked up. I pushed the invite friend button on a website and now everyone, including those I would prefer not know, were invited to a website. DARN. Don't be seduced. It's okay to be friendless.
